"Blockchain 101: Blockchain Demystified”

The latest tech buzzwords include this new technology called "blockchain" that emerged with the introduction of cryptocurrency. The news stories are all over; the use cases are boundless; the intrigue is immense... but what exactly is Blockchain?

About the Speakers

Duncan Kabinu is a successful serial entrepreneur. He is the CEO and co-founder of Gainesville Dev Academy, a “coding school” started in 2015, and also helped co-found Gainesville business incubator Starter Space.

He studied Computer Engineering at the University of Florida and spent 17 years working for the State of Florida developing and managing enterprise database applications that managed various state programs to protect and enhance Florida’s multi-billion dollar agriculture industry.

Mr. Kabinu is passionate about entrepreneurship. He has been an avid entrepreneur since a young age, starting his first business while in college, and currently serves on the board of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Technology Council, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Human Capital Foundation, Institute for Work Innovation, Gainesville Area Innovation Network (GAIN) and Editorial Board of Advantage Publishing, Inc .

Mirek Sopek, PhD has a doctoral degree in the field of Theoretical Chemistry and experience in both science and business.

He founded MakoLab in Poland in 1989, and after he led the company through a successful IPO in 2007, MakoLab spread across the globe, opening offices in Paris, London and Gainesville. Makolab offers Digital Transformation Services for a variety of industries.

Mirek loves Gainesville. He first came here in 1996 to work with Hypercube, a company making molecular modelling software.

In 2014, he co-created Chemical Semantics Inc. Later on, Mirek opened MakoLab USA Inc. and is now doing business as LEI.INFO – the primary source of identification services for legal entities.

Mirek focuses on the intersection between technologies: Semantic Web, Blockchain and Quantum Computing. He recently proposed the concept of an entirely new kind of Blockchain called GraphChain and is now applying it to the identification services of LEI.INFO.
